Storytelling can be used as a tool for generating social change as well as cultivating community engagement. Given the new opportunities for collaboration through technology, and specifically social media, the capacity for a community, or communities, to come together and share a collective narrative has never been greater. This article focuses largely on the movement generated immediately after the controversial Kenyan presidential election in 2007. After this election the effort by the Kenyan government to manipulate the generated narrative was great, however, through community collaboration and storytelling the citizens of Kenya were able to share the stories of the true violence that they experienced.
